MTC’s 2025 Mainstage Season: Jam-Packed Family Friendly Entertainment

It is the most wonderful time of the year! Not just because the various holidays that bring our families together are upon us, but also because it is the time of year that I get to share what I have been planning for our next season. Since my arrival in 2021, I have had the great pleasure of sharing growth and success with you season after season, and this year is no different. 2024 saw our largest summer attendance in our 86-year history, and audiences are still talking about those flawlessly executed tap numbers (trust me, there are more to come). This success was followed with devastation across our region causing us to cancel the much-anticipated production of The Burnt Part Boys. We are doing our best to bounce back, and with the opening weekend response to our all-new Home for The Holidays, we are hopeful sell-out performances, like Santa, are just around the corner.

Our 87th Mainstage Season brings a jam-packed summer of family-friendly entertainment with all-star triple threat casts. Our Summer begins with two openings in one week. Yes, you read that correctly, TWO openings in a single week! Opening June 11th, 2025, Mountain Theatre Company is thrilled to present the two time Off-Broadway smash - The Marvelous Wonderettes. Join Betty Jean, Cindy Lou, Missy, and Suzy, four girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts! As we learn about their lives and loves, the girls serenade us with classic ‘50s hits including “Lollipop,” “Dream Lover,” “Stupid Cupid,” and “Lipstick on Your Collar.” In Act Two, the Wonderettes reunite to take the stage and perform at their ten-year reunion. We learn about the highs and lows the young women have experienced in the past decade and are charmed to find that no matter what life throws their way, they will conquer it together. Featuring over 30 classic ’50s and ’60s hits, The Marvelous Wonderettes will keep you smiling in this must-take musical trip down memory lane!

Opening just days later on June 13th, 2025, we present an Off-Broadway and International hit that has been on my short list for our audience since the success of Jersey Boys in 2022 – Forever Plaid. Once upon a time, there were four guys (Sparky, Smudge, Jinx and Frankie) who discovered that they shared a love for music and then got together to become their idols – The Four Freshman, The Hi-Lo's and The Crew Cuts. Rehearsing in the basement of Smudge's family's plumbing supply company, they became "Forever Plaid". Singing in close harmony, squabbling boyishly over the smallest intonations and executing their charmingly outlandish choreography with overzealous precision, the "Plaids" are a guaranteed smash, with a program of beloved songs and delightful patter that keeps audiences rolling in the aisles when they're not humming along to some of the greatest hits of all time.

The Marvelous Wonderettes and Forever Plaid will run in repertory with each other playing alternating matinee and evening performances through July 12th and July 13th respectively.

The Summer of variety isn’t over as we welcome the cast and creative team of The Burnt Part Boys back to our beautiful mountain town to tell this incredible story. Featuring live musicians and a cast of Broadway and National Tour veterans, this highly anticipated production about siblings from a mining town learning the power of self-reliance in this Appalachian, bluegrass-inspired journey is not to be missed as it runs August 6th – August 30th, 2025.

Our 87th Mainstage Season wraps with Home for the Holidays December 5th – December 21st. An all-new production featuring holiday classics, sparkling costumes, and breathtaking choreography. Always the perfect treat for anyone in your family.

On behalf of myself, the Board of Directors, and our entire staff, we greatly appreciate your support, and we are excited to start selecting the creative teams to bring professional national talent to our Broadway-caliber productions. Keep an eye out for announcements regarding other special performances, pop-ups, and world premiere entertainment experiences like you have never seen before as we continue to find new and exciting ways to engage, enrich, and entertain our community.

So, without further ado (and I love some ado), prepare yourself for the spectacle that is Mountain Theatre Company’s 2025 Mainstage Season!

A Musical Written & Created by Stuart Ross

Once upon a time, there were four guys (Sparky, Smudge, Jinx and Frankie) who discovered that they shared a love for music and then got together to become their idols – The Four Freshman, The Hi-Lo's and The Crew Cuts. Rehearsing in the basement of Smudge's family's plumbing supply company, they became "Forever Plaid". On the way to their first big gig, the "Plaids" are broadsided by a school bus and killed instantly. THE BURNT PART BOYS

August 6 - 30

Book by Mariana Elder

Music by Chris Miller

Lyrics by Nathan Tysen

Siblings from a mining town learn the power of self-reliance in this Appalachian, bluegrass-inspired journey.

Locally known as “The Burnt Part,” the Pickaway Coal Company's South Mountain closed down after an accident in 1952 that resulted in the death of four miners. Ten years later, Jake Twitchell is an employee of that same company, doing the same job that took his own father's life. Much to the dismay of his movie-buff younger brother, Pete, the Pickaway Coal Company is going to begin re-mining The Burnt Part and send down the next generation of young men. Inspired by his silver screen heroes, Pete sets out for The Burnt Part with his best friend, a pack full of dynamite, and plans to blow up the mine in hopes of protecting his older brother. This new musical is a dangerous and heartwarming adventure following the journey to discover the importance of the choices we make to protect our family.

The Burnt Part Boys is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI. www.mtishows.com
